Hair transplantation in women | Contrary to the general view, hair loss is not only a problem for men. So much research shows that 1 out of every 5 women is faced with hair loss. This problem can cause self-confidence problems as it directly affects the appearance.
Hair loss is a bad experience for everyone. However, since healthy and bushy hair is perceived as a sign of beauty, women experience a greater trauma.
To prevent this situation, hair transplantation is applied to women as it is applied to men.
Hair Loss in Women
Pregnancy and related hormonal changes, stress, medications used, thyroid problems and various chronic health problems can cause hair loss in women. However, gradual hair loss can be observed due to aging and genetic reasons.
Since the causes of hair loss are very diverse, it is not predictable.
However, the number of women experiencing hair loss is higher than thought. Women constitute 40% of the people in their 40s who experience remarkable hair loss.
The most permanent solution of the hair loss problem is considered as hair transplantation.
Male pattern hair loss and female pattern hair loss show different features. Therefore, different ways are followed in the hair transplantation process.
In women, especially the hair in the front part of the head is not shed unlike men. In addition, the shedding is mostly in the middle and back of the hair and hair loses its volume over time. For this reason, hair transplantation in women is mostly done to strengthen the hair surrounding the face and to gain volume.
Since males have hair loss in certain areas, healthy roots can be taken from areas where hair loss is not observed.
In women, hair transplantation can be described as a slightly more complicated process, as it is linked to many health conditions.
Hair Transplantation Methods in Women
- Follicular unit transplantation (FUT):With this method, which is classic in hair transplantation, the roots taken together with the skin from the back of the head are transferred to the balding area. Upon completion of the procedure, the stitch is thrown and a trail of 8 – 9 cm wide remains in this area. The operation takes 3 – 4 hours and up to 6000 hair follicles can be planted during this period.
- Follicular unit extraction (FUE): With this method, hair follicles are taken from the back of the head one by one and they are planted one by one to the area to be treated. As with the FUT method, since the hair is not removed with the skin, adverse conditions such as cuts, stitches and scars are not mentioned. The duration of this operation varies according to the number of hair follicles to be transplanted.
- Direct Hair Implantation (DHI): FUE hair follicles are collected by this method, is transferred to the bald areas specially designed for operation with a medical castle. Hair follicles taken from the donor area are transplanted within 1 – 2 minutes, rooting and transplantation can be done at the same time. This method can be made to sowing without shaving hair in hair densification process can be obtained good results with this method.
Before Hair Transplantation Operation
Before hair transplantation, the physician collects information about the patient’s health history and lifestyle, and investigates the causes of hair loss. In this way, the most appropriate treatment method can be chosen. In this process, a communication path must be established between the physician and the patient regarding the operational expectations.
Except those:
- Patient should inform the physician about the health conditions that may affect the course of the operation. In particular, the physician must be aware of problems with blood pressure and blood clotting.
- If the body is prone to scarring, it is imperative that this be reported to the physician.
- Also patient should inform the physician about the use of drugs (aspirin etc.) and tobacco products that affect blood flow, flow density.
Apart from these, the physician should be informed about other personal health problems, if any. The physician performs many tests, especially related to anesthesia, in the process that operates as a procedure. Operation is planned after these tests. In this pre-operative process, it is not necessary to shave an entire head area.
Hair Transplantation Process in Women
Although it has similarities with the hair transplantation process applied to men in terms of general principles, the hair transplantation process in women requires more attention since it is a complex process.
The operation begins with the sterilization of hair follicles from the donor area. After this application, the area where the hair roots will be placed is numbed with local anesthesia and hair transplantation is completed according to the selected hair transplantation method (FUE, FUT, DHI). Although it varies depending on which method is selected during the transplantation process, it can be said that hair transplantation takes place between 3 and 6 hours on average.
