It is important that the breasts that complete the aesthetic visuality of the body are upright, ideally sized and symmetrical. Breast volume decreases due to reasons such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, frequent weight gain and loss, genetic factors, traumas, menopause and aging, and the ligaments connecting the breast tissue to the anterior chest wall loosen. As a result, sagging occurs on the skin; Sagging breasts that make an aesthetically unpleasant appearance can cause social and psychological problems.
In non-deformed breasts, the nipple remains above the crease line in the lower part of the breast. However, in time, the nipple begins to fall down in breasts that lose their elasticity and tissue volume. In this case, the most effective and permanent solution is breast lift surgery.
With breast lift, which is a surgical operation, breasts that have lost their volume and form are reshaped and lifted; breasts are provided fullness. successful results with these procedures applied by experienced doctors in Turkey are obtained.
Breast Sagging
There are various degrees of sagging breasts. The degree of sagging is usually measured according to the level of the nipple with the line under the breast.
- 1st Degree (Slight) Sagging: If the nipple is close to or at the same level with the sub-breast crease line, it is called 1st degree (mild) sagging. In slight sagging, only the tissue around the brown part of the breast is removed. If there is a decrease in the volume of the breast tissue, a prosthesis can also be placed under the breast.
- 2nd Degree (Medium) Sagging: The position of the nipple 1-3 cm below the sub-breast crease line is called 2nd degree (medium) sagging. In moderate sagging, the excess skin is removed by making a thin incision surrounding the brown part of the breast and descending towards the breast fold, and the nipple is moved to where it should be.
- 3rd Degree (Forward) Sagging: If the nipple is 3 cm or more below the sub-breast crease line, it is called 3rd degree (forward) sagging. In forward sagging, an inverted-T shaped incision is made. In this case, a horizontal scar will remain under the breast. However, the advantage of this incision is that the breast can take a full cone and round shape.
Before breast lift surgery
Before breast lift surgery, which can be applied to all women after the age of 18-20, when breast development is completed, the doctor undergoes a detailed physical examination. The sagging degree of the breast and the technique to be applied are determined in this process. Ultrasound and mammography are performed for those who have a suspicious finding in their breast as a result of the examination, those who have a history of breast cancer, those who have cancer risk factors, and patients over 40 years old. Thus, it is confirmed that the patient is a suitable candidate for this surgical operation.
Before the operation, there are some points that the patient should pay attention to;
- The doctor should be informed about the drugs that are used regularly,
- Should not eat or drink anything 5-6 hours before the operation,
- The following substances with blood thinning properties should not be used at least 1 week before the operation: Painkillers, herbal supplements, vitamins, especially aspirin,
- Women over the age of 40 should have breast checks with mammography or ultrasonography before the operation,
- Smoking and alcohol use should be stopped at least 1 week before the operation.
Apart from these, it is of great importance to follow the doctor’s advice before breast lift.
During breast lift surgery
Breast lift surgery, which takes about 2 – 3 hours under general anesthesia, is performed in operating room conditions. During the operation process, the sagging breast tissue is reshaped, the excess skin is removed and the nipple is brought to where it should be.
The surgery technique changes according to the degree of sagging in the breast. Regardless of the technique used, a minimal incision is made on the breast during the operation so that it can be easily camouflaged with a bra or bikini top. In the area where the incision is made, a scar can be seen in the first months, but this scar disappears with the following months. Apart from this, a drain can be placed in the patient at the end of the operation.
During breast lift surgery, depending on the need (low breast tissue, slight sagging), silicone prosthesis can be applied. Likewise, if needed (high breast tissue, dense sagging) breast reduction is also performed in combination. However, breast lift and breast augmentation operations are often performed together, so the breast undergoes a comprehensive change.
