Before breast augmentation
Before breast augmentation, the patient should inform the doctor about their preferences about the size and appearance of the breast. In the light of this information, the doctor chooses the most suitable one among the different types of prosthesis or, if fat injection will be made, the amount of fat to be transferred.
Silicone breast prostheses have different types in terms of size, shape, material and structural features. Stylistically, prostheses are of two types, drop (anatomical) and round, and the prosthesis called drop has the shape that most reflects the natural breast appearance.
Breast prostheses are classified as saline, also known as saline and silicone, in terms of the ingredients they contain. Finally, there are two different types of silicone prostheses, with a smooth surface and a rough surface in terms of structural features. The doctor decides which of these prosthesis types is the most suitable for the patient with the first examination. The doctor makes this choice by considering the patient’s height and weight ratio, chest and shoulder width and tries to provide the most natural appearance. During these analyzes, the doctor may also recommend breast lift operation in case of a sagging breast.
Apart from these, some tests are performed to confirm that the patient is a suitable candidate for the procedure.
Some points that the patient should pay attention to before the operation are as follows:
- If there are drugs that are used regularly, the doctor should inform about this,
- If there is a chronic illness, this should be reported to the doctor.
- Eating and drinking should be stopped 5 – 6 hours before the operation.
- At least 1 week before the operation, the intake of drugs and supplements with blood thinning properties should be suspended,
- Women over the age of 40 should definitely have breast checks with mammography or ultrasonography,
- Smoking and alcohol use should be stopped at least 1 week before the operation.
During breast augmentation
Breast augmentation surgery is a procedure that takes approximately 1-1.5 hours under general anesthesia. If the procedure is to be performed with the help of prostheses, the prostheses are usually placed by opening a 4 cm incision. The size of the incision may vary depending on the shape of the prosthesis and breast shape.
In breast augmentation surgery, the prosthesis can be placed on the breast from 3 different regions such as nipple, armpit and under the breast.
The Nipple: If the colored part of the nipple has the appropriate width for the prosthesis to pass through, the incision can be made here. However, if this method is used, there may be numbness in the nipple for up to 1 year. In addition, there is a possibility that the milk ducts are affected in this surgical technique.
Under The Breast: With this method, it is possible to place the prosthesis by making an incision from the under breast fold. In this way, the procedure can be completed without damaging the breast tissue and milk ducts. With the under-breast incision, the treated area can be seen clearly during the operation, in addition, the operation scar will not be evident after the procedure.
The Armpit: Prosthesis can be placed under the armpit into the breast. In operations performed from this region, the prosthesis is usually placed using the endoscopic method. In the incision made under the armpit, there is no scar around the breast.
After breast augmentation
The doctor decides whether the patient will stay in the hospital after the operation. However, the patient should rest for 2 days after being discharged. In this process, dressing is applied to the incision area.
Swelling and pain may occur in the treated area for a few weeks after the operation. These pains can be eliminated with the pain relievers prescribed by the doctor. In case of working in a job that does not require physical activity, it is possible to return to work within a few days. In this process, it is necessary to use a sports bra and chest corset. After all precautions are taken, it takes about 2 months for the breasts to take their final shape.
The points to be considered to speed up the healing process are as follows:
- Shower should not be taken for the first 3 days after breast aesthetics,
- The treated area should be protected from any impact,
- Car should not be used for at least 1 month,
- Heavy activities that will increase blood pressure at least 1 should be avoided, after this process, light sports can be done if the doctor approves,
- Medicines given by the doctor should be used regularly,
- The use of a medical corset should not be disrupted.
Reasons such as weight gain, age gain, and breastfeeding can change the appearance of the breasts. In such cases, a secondary breast aesthetics may be required.
Breast Augmentation with Fat Injection
It is possible to fill the breast with the fat transfer process, also known as non-surgical breast augmentation. This process involves injecting fat taken from any part of the body rich in fat into the breast, enriched with stem cells.
Injection of oil provides volume in the breast, while degreasing eliminates the problem of regional lubrication. Since the person’s own fat is used during the procedure, it is possible to obtain very healthy and natural results.
After the fat injection procedure performed under local or general anesthesia, the person can be discharged on the same day; It is possible to return to daily life within 1-2 days. After the operation performed using only needle cannulas without incision, there is no pain in the breasts, but swelling and bruising can be seen in the areas where fat is removed.
However, 40% or 50% of the transferred oils are permanent for life. If deemed necessary, the same process can be repeated after a while. After the procedure, there is no loss of sensation in the nipple, people do not have any problems in terms of breastfeeding.
Who can have breast augmentation with fat injection?
In this procedure, which provides very natural results, the risk of complications is very low since the person’s own body fat is used and a foreign body is not taken into the body. However, excessively deformed breast tissue cannot be corrected by fat injection. However, this method may not be enough to give an intense fullness to the breast.
In order to have breast augmentation with fat injection;
- The breasts are not sagging excessively,
- No symmetry problem in breasts,
- The presence of excess fat in the body that can be injected,
- The person wants to give vitality and vitality to his breasts,
- The person needs only 1 or 2 cup improvement in terms of breast size.
In addition to all these, the method by which the breast will be enlarged depends on the doctor’s decision. In some cases, prosthesis and fat injection can be used together.
Silicone Breast Prosthesis Types
- Saline Containing Prostheses: Prostheses containing physiological saline (saline) can be filled until the desired volume is obtained after they are placed in the body. The density of saline is the same as the density of water; Therefore, the volume of the prosthesis may decrease over time.
- Silicone-Contained Prostheses: This type of prosthesis, which is filled with silicone in gel consistency, creates a natural breast feeling with its texture and appearance and the prosthesis is less likely to be visible from the outside. Moreover, it does not cause allergies and sensitivities. Silicone prostheses are suitable for people aged 22 and over. Each of the silicone prostheses, which vary in shape, function and surface structure, has different features. These features have some advantages and disadvantages. In order for the patient not to have a negative experience, the doctor makes the choice of silicone in detail.
Let’s take a closer look at silicone breast prostheses:
- Round Silicone Prostheses: Round silicone prostheses, which can solve problems caused by sagging, are generally preferred when the upper part of the breast is without volume. Thanks to the round prosthesis that fills the décolleté, breasts that look like they are supported by a bra are obtained. An important advantage of round silicone is that even if it rotates inside the breast, it does not cause any deformation from the outside.
- Drop (Anatomic) Silicone Prostheses: Drop (anatomic) silicone prostheses, which are preferred for people with low weight and almost no breast tissue, are effective in achieving a natural appearance. In addition, these types of prostheses also make the nipple look raised.
In addition, there is a silicone cover on the outer part of all breast implants that protects the prosthesis against impacts and accidents.
In terms of content, prostheses are divided into two as saline (saline) and silicone. Breast prostheses are also divided into two according to their surface properties:
- Smooth Surface Breast Prosthesis: Capsule may form from time to time in the flat surface breast prosthesis which is generally placed under the muscle. However, these types of prostheses are used more safely, as the outer sheath of the prosthesis is thick enough to prevent the flow of silicone gel and the gel inside is in dense consistency.
- Textured Surface Breast Prosthesis: Capsule contracture formation is less common in breast prostheses with a lumpy surface, which are generally placed on the muscle, compared to those with a flat surface. The rough-surfaced breast prosthesis is obtained by changing the outer structure of the silicone in the sheath of the flat-surfaced prosthesis.
