Before the Beard Transplantation Operation
Before the beard transplantation, the reasons for the beard loss of the patient are investigated and a detailed beard analysis is performed. Then, the devices and techniques to be used in beard transplantation, how many grafts (hair follicles with tissue pieces are needed) are calculated and the operation is planned in this way. Meanwhile, the patient is confirmed once again that it is suitable for the operation by performing various tests.
Apart from these, there are some important points that the patient should pay attention to before the procedure:
The beards should not be cut before the analysis so that the beards’ natural way of emergence can be determined; if necessary, the medical team cuts the beard just before the operation,
Blood thinners such as aspirin and vitamins should be stopped a week before the operation,
If alcohol and cigarettes are used, they should be stopped 1 week before the procedure,
An outfit that can be worn and removed easily, such as a shirt, should be preferred on the day of the procedure,
If there is any medication used, the doctor should be informed before the operation.
Beard Transplantation Operation process
In addition to how many grafts will be planted in the pre-operative period, a decision is made regarding the donor region. In beard transplantation, generally the hair on the nape or the hairy areas on the body are chosen as the donor region. Since small needles are used during the removal of the grafts, there is no significant bleeding and the donor area is not damaged. For the beard area, usually 1000 to 3000 grafts give healthy results in the absence of a beard.
Beard transplantation operation is performed with FUE, DHI or Robotic methods used in hair transplantation. These methods allow the hair follicles to be extracted from the donor area with a special tool, manually or with the help of a robotic device, and transferred to the beard-free area. With these methods, the grafts taken one by one without making an incision to the donor region are transplanted to the beardless area within the same day, taking into account the growth direction. In this way, the grafts are prevented from losing their vitality.
In the second stage of beard transplantation consisting of two stages, after sufficient number of grafts are collected for transplantation, the canal is opened and the grafts are transported to these areas. Since the incision is not opened during this process, there is no scar on the skin.
After the beard transplantation operation
Thanks to modern techniques used in beard transplantation, extremely fast and effective results are obtained.
As with hair transplantation, the patient does not need to stay in the hospital after beard transplantation. However, after the procedure, red spots may appear in the beard area; this condition disappears in about 1 week.
The canals opened in the first 10 days after beard transplantation close, the transplanted grafts adapt and the hair roots bind. The region, which is planted approximately 48 hours after the operation, is washed by the doctor and his team, this is called the first wash.
On average, 2 weeks after the operation, shocks fall on the beard. This is a completely natural process, and the beards will come out permanently after spills. With the right grooming techniques, it takes about 6 months for the beards to become their final shape.
Things to consider after beard cultivation are as follows:
- The operation area should be protected from any blows,
- The planting area should not be touched,
- In the first 15 days, the face should not be in direct contact with the sun,
- The first 3 days after the procedure should be rest,
- Medicines and care products given by the doctor should be used regularly,
- Shaver should not be used without doctor’s approval (scissors may be preferred instead),
- There should not be any areas (sauna, Turkish bath etc.) that will cause sweating,
- Chemical products should not be applied on the cultivated area,
- After the procedure, the area sown for 1 week should not come in contact with the pillow,
- Heavy sports, excitement and stress should be avoided until the doctor approves,
- The cultivated area should be kept clean.
Apart from these, there may also be recommendations given by the doctor to the patient.
It is necessary to carefully follow these recommendations to get the best results from the procedure.
